Only on N. Broadway

I've been shooting alot in Lincoln Heights again. My office is there and that is where I spent alot of time with my wife before we got married. It is considered the oldest neighborhood in Los Angeles and has a very cool vibe. Here are a few shots.

Palenke Soultribe x FUNAKI x Colombia

Some promo shots I did for Colombian electronica group Palenke Soultribe.

From the archives. 1994

I dont know if I could do these types of pics anymore. On a rainy and cold night I ran into the most intoxicating stench where I met Lucky. The filth that he was sitting in made me want to barf. Urine, feces, rats, alcohol, body stench and trash. I had to capture it and found myself going back.

Final exams

Students do some final prep before going in to take their exams.

Dont piss on the street!!

Walking the streets it always smells like pee, yet there are constant reminders not to pee on the street

The Knock Out Kids!!

Asmall collage dedicated to throwing down!!!

THE MELVINS!!!

Growing up listening to heavy Rock music one of my favorites out of the seattle scene is The Melvins. They were the inspiration for groups like Nirvana and Mudhoney. They still tour to this day and they have only gotten better with time.

New Funaki color images

Some new images from my portrait series I have done in the past few months. Hefty Loc, DOON and Sal of Skid Row Tattoos.

Escuela Vieja (Ol Skool) Funaki

Some Ol Skool FUNAKI images taken in the early 90's. 1993 and 1995 respectively. I did some scans of the film to show some of the portraits I have never shown before.

The more things change the more they stay the same

As time passes many things change, people in your life come and go, technology changes, they way we communicate and so many other things change, but your ideals and way of living should never change. I hope I have remained humble and live a simple life where family is first and my love for taking photos. I dont do it for fame or fortune, i do it straight from my heart to capture the beauty of people and moments in time to share with others, thats all. I have been lucky to be able to travel and see parts of the world that I thought I would never get to. Thats me in 1992 taking images under the freeways and me now in Cartagena Colombia doing street photography in the barrios in San Felipe Boca grande. Different places and time: same approach!!

2 Favorite musicians gone

The music world lost two amazing musicians this week. Jazz Drummer Joe Morello and Alice in Chains bassist Mike Starr passed away this week. I first saw AIC in 1992 at the Hollywood palladium for a benefit concert and was lucky enough to have seen Joe in his older age at Monterey jazz festival. Both are playing today very loudly in the office. The music and the photos live on!!!
