Here is of my street sign images I did. I did not mean to capture what i did, but I kind of liked it. On a serious note though, Don't give the baby to a HO!!!!
Every year I look back at the people who have inspired my work. I am not doing anything new. I consider myself a carrier of the tradition of street photography and nothing more. When you see my work best beleive that my heroes influence is there. Bruce Davidson, Dennis Stock, Glen Friedman, Roberta Bayley and Richard Avedon. True legendary masters!!!! Enjoy!!!
Check out this amazing photo exhibition of the civil rights movement. This is a great opportunity to teach the kids a crucial part of our nations history and to also support the photographers who documented these events. It will be on exhibit until March.
I shot some more self portraits for my promo shots. I also attached a portrait I did of my friend Doon. Doon will be the cover model for the website and most promo stuff for 2010. Watch out for more flicks!!! FUNAKI is showcasing the old school C.R. Stecyk picture from the Z-boy era. How many remember "BONES"
I was at Estevan Oriol's book signing for LA Women. The show was amazing and as a photographer it's inspiring to keep shooting and get better with every job I get and keep doing my side projects as well. It was an honor to meet Estevan and his wife Angel. They both signed my book and Estevan also signed my AE-1.
I have a new article out in the examiner. I did a piece on artist Bodega man. I really like his approach to his music and love the Jazz influence that he incorporates. The Jazz hip hop of the 90's is my favorite era of all time. The Pharcyde, A Tribe Called Quest, Sould of Mischief and the list goes on. Here is a link to the article. http://www.examiner.com/x-23635-LA-Life-in-Photos-Examiner~y2009m12d11-Conscious-Hip-Hop-with-a-touch-of-jazz
Here are some photos from Mykill Miers record release performance at the Airliner. I also did the photos for the album cover as well. Don't sleep on this one "Take it in Blood" is available thorugh ITunes and Rhapsody. Visit www.mykillmiers.com for more info.
I am working on getting my images set and organized for my new website. I took alot of pictures this year so I got my work cut out for me to sort them all out and see which ones will make the cut. Check out the FUNAKI-KANJI Shirts and the website cover models. I wanted my clients and get a feel of my work. Hardcore and rough as well as soft and refined.
I have begun my yearly process of getting some self portraits for my work. Check out the 1985 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham in the picture. Thanks to E.H. for letting me use his car. The promo FUNAKI shirts will be available as well. Thanks to MASATO for the design. For those that don't know those characters is how you spell FUNAKI in Japanese!!
Here is a street portrait shot I did of the Rhyme Addicts. These guys kick out some serious Hip Hop. Raw, Uncut and In Your Face they are perfect for my style of Photography. Here is ISuppose, Illwerd and XP.
I had some friends model for my upcoming website images. Please do not think I am exploiting them. These guys are good friends of mine and I often take them food, clothes and coffee. They capture the true essence of the photos that I do. Rugged, Raw and Real. If you are considered beautiful by mainstream society standards then you probably won't want to model for me. It's OK i'll live!!
