I noticed this sign while I was shooting for a music newspaper awhile back. It translates into "We pray for the sick on Fridays and Sundays" Are you SICK?
I have created a new album of the artwork I run into when i'm doing my photoshoots. I have always enjoyed documenting not so good graffiti, bad tagging names, signs that have catchy names and random wall posting like this I call "Twins", someone added their own touch.
The legendary Rock Photographer Jim Marshall passed away. His body of work is legendary. If you like Myles Davis, Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles and Janis Joplin just to name a few then you need to check his work out. Thank you for the pictures!!!
I shot Aztlan Underground at the Anarchist cafe over at The Smell. They play an amazing fusion of heavy rock, experimental and Indigenous sounds. I hadn't seen AUG since they opened for Rage against the machine back in 1994 and they still have it.
www.Funakiphoto.com is up an running. It is a small example of my work and what I love to do. I have gotten some of your e-mails asking about the person in the photo. His name is DOON and he is a security guard/bouncer for a Hip Hop crew named the Rhyme Addicts from Los Angeles. I have photographer them many times. The shirt he is wearing is how you spell FUNAKI using japanese characters. I approached him because he embodies what my studio is all about, real, rugged and raw.
I did a shoot with Tittle over at the Hotel Dunbar and what used to be the legendary Club Alabam. We wanted a classic 60's jazz look reminiscent to the free jazz period.
My photos are on Long Beach hip hop artist YoungHype's new mix tape. I have collaborated with Hype on many projects. He regularly performs all over L.A.
