R.O.M.E Show

What a great show last weekend at the 2nd Street Jazz cafe in Little Tokyo. Tech Advanced opened the show with a fury of raw hip hop that I haven't seen in a long time. More people need to check them out!!! Stamina and Krazy Race were great and kept the lyrical flow going. The headliner ROME was tight he bumped Oh La La which is bound to be an LA classic. I even got to meet one of my favorite photographers that night the Legendary Estevan Oriol. All Fotos by FUNAKI

PUNK/FUNK/JAZZ

Last weeks show at The Smell was amazing. Pipsqueek and Saturn were rockin as the openers. My favorite was the Chuck Dukowski sextet. They played an amzing fusion of Punk, Funk and Jazz. Chuck still gets down and has so much soul to his playing. The legendary Saccharine Trust was great and still going strong. Here are some Fotos. All Fotos by FUNAKI

Get familiar with FUNAKI

Back in the early 1990's I began to discover the art of Photography. I was studying the portraits of Dennis Stock from the 50's and was inspired to begin my journey. It all started with taking pictures of my friends with a cheap Pentax 35mm camera. Here is a sample of some very early work I was doing. My concept was to take portraits of people using a raw background and frame my images using available light and raw scenery. This was way before the "I'll fix it Photoshop" mentality of younger photographers. This began my journey. No games, no fancy computer tricks, just Downright Ruthless Street Photography.

Now on blogger

Hello everyone, Funaki Foto is now on Blogger. A little about myself, I am a photographer and have been taking pictures since the early 1990's. Influenced by the raw images of photographers like Weegee the famous, Bruce Davidson, Glen Friedman and Estevan Oriol I began to carry on this unique form of portraiture. I like to call it Downright Ruthless Street Photography. I enjoy showing my work in galleries and shows all over Los Angeles. I will post some of my work and am honored to have you check it out!!
